Endodontists are dental specialists that focus on the tooth pulp and the tissues surrounding the pulp. The pulp contains many nerves and blood vessels of the tooth. These tissues can become diseased or injured and once this occurs, the pulp is unable to repair itself. The damaged pulp will eventually die and can cause immense pain that will require a root canal to treat.

Endodontists are dentist who have become specialists in pulp therapy. They have completed an additional 2-3 years of training after completing dental school. Endodontists specialize in root canal treatments, pulp therapy and root canal surgery.
