Dr. Emily Hung DDS MS: Orthodontist in Rancho Cucamonga, CA
About me I’m Emily Hung DDS MS, an orthodontist at our Rancho Cucamonga office. I’ve been an orthodontist - I say “smile engineer” - since 2008, and that time has flown past. That’s partly because it’s rewarding to help give kids and adults alike a healthier, more comfortable, more natural smile, and it’s partly because for each patient the realignment process usually takes about 24 months. Gentle orthodontics takes a while. But the good news is that that gives my patients and me time to get to know each other well.

As an orthodontist for children and for adults, I’ll be able to help whenever a problem emerges. I see all age ranges, from 7 and up. Kids usually have a first visit with me around age 7, when their first molars erupt. We may not always start so early, but it's helpful to have a first exam just to know how their jaws and teeth are growing. But some alignment problems don’t become priorities until later in life. (It’s understandable not to want braces of any kind, at any age.) Many of my patients are a generation older than my youngest patients - and some are even their grandparents! It’s always the right time for straighter teeth and more reasons to smile.
My most common orthodontic treatments are braces and clear aligners. Clear aligners have become extremely popular, and we can even use them for small children. (I currently have my seven-year-old son in clear aligners, and the treatment process has been great.)
As my patient (or a relative of one), you can expect me to listen carefully, discuss your needs and goals and options in as much detail as you like, and bring some positive energy. My hope is that you’ll be excited for what you’ll see and feel after the appointment.
In dental school I worked with community dental groups that would bring dental services to communities in need, including some overseas. That gave me lots of experience in working with young children, to teach them and their families the why and the how of daily oral health habits. That taught me how to work with people who are understandably a little anxious about the dental chair, and in turn my patients are relieved to find that going to the dentist can be an easy deal.
Being an orthodontist is one of the greatest blessings in my life. I love what I do and I love that I have the opportunity to meet wonderful patients at work and be able to help give them a smile they love and are proud to bring wherever they go.
In my spare time I like to help out at my kids’ schools. Being around young kids and their positivity on my days off is fun, and I love being able to help and provide service to our community.
If I never got into orthodontics, I probably would have become a tour guide. I like planning trips and encouraging people to do fun things.
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Biology in 2002 from the University of California San Diego, and my Doctoral degree in Dental Surgery in 2006 from UCLA School of Dentistry. I then received my Master of Science degree from St. Louis University School of Orthodontics in 2008, and went straight to practicing orthodontics.
